Historic Genadendal Mission Tour

Tuesday, 25 July 2017

Genadendal Historic Village and Museum is 6km from Greyton, and is 133km from Cape Town. This interesting and historic village of Genadendal, the oldest Mission station in Southern Africa, with church buildings and school, dates back to 1738. To visit

Genadendal’s church square, Die Werf, is to journey back in time. It boasts both a watermill in working condition and a fascinating museum with 8 000 artefacts that gives visitors insights into life centuries ago.

Missionary and Historian Dr Peter Hammond, as well as the former Curator of the Genadendal Museum, Isaac Bailey, will be leading a Guided Tour of Genadendal and presentations on Mission History for home schoolers and other interested individuals on Tuesday, 25 July, 10:00 – 14:00.

Admission fee to the Museum: R10 per adult and R5 per child.

Please RSVP to or 021 – 6894480, with your name and the number of children and adults attending. Meet at the entrance to the Museum. Bring your own lunch and enjoy a picnic in this scenic venue or make use of the mission restaurant.
