Momentous Milestone
It is not often that one gets to celebrate a 500th anniversary of such a momentously historic event as Professor Martin Luther's bold stand on the Word of God at Worms, 18 April 1521. The courageous stand of Dr. Martin Luther before the assembled political and ecclesiastical might of Europe: “My conscience is captive to the Word of God! Here I Stand!” launched the greatest movement for Faith and freedom.
The Reformation Roots of Western Civilisation
Incapsulated in his historic speech were the principles of freedom of conscience, freedom of worship, freedom of thought, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of association, constitutionalism, the separation of powers, checks and balances and the rule of Law.
Conscience Captive to the Word of God
To celebrate the 500 anniversary of Martin Luther’s “My conscience is captive to the Word of God!” stand on 18 April 1521, the Reformation Society, in conjunction with Coalition on Revival, Gospel Defence League, Livingstone Fellowship, Frontline Fellowship, Africa Christian Action, the Christian Action Network, Christian Liberty Books, William Carey Bible Institute and Literature4Africa will be hosting a REFORMATION 500 Conscience Captive to the Word of God CONFERENCE on 17 April 2021.
Parallel Childrens’ Programme
The Parallel Children’s Programme will be a hands-on, interactive, educational experience with arts, crafts, activities, Reformation songs and interactive lessons explore and discuss the role of our conscience and the meaning and history of the Reformation and how it impacts our lives today. The Reformation 500 Children’s Programme will be co-ordinated by Alieske van’t Fort and assisted by Dalinda Scholz and Daniela Hammond. “And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” Romans 12:2
A Priceless Opportunity
The programme begins at 9 am at Livingstone House in Rondebosch. There is no cost for the conference, or childrens programme, although donations towards catering costs will be appreciated. John Eidsmoe, Professor of Constitutional Law; Joel Saint of Mid Atlantic Reformation Society; Dr. Phil Kayser of Biblical Blueprints; Pastor Matt Trewella of Mercy Seat; Author Charl van Wyk; Missionary Hunter Combs; Pastor Anthony Stander and myself amongst others.
Braai and Martin Luther Film on Saturday Night
For those who would like to stay on for the screening of the classic Martin Luther film at 7 pm, there will also be a bring and braai beforehand.
Reformation 500 Celebration Service
On Sunday, 18 April, there will be a Reformation 500 Celebration service at 10 am. Those with musical gifts who would like to participate in the celebration service are encouraged to contact Dalinda@christianaction.org.za. Similarly, if any home educators have a relevant poem on the significance of Martin Luther’s “My conscience is captive to the Word of God!” speech, please let us know if you want it read out at the celebration service.
