PREFACE, by Dr Peter Hammond:
Brigadier Oupa Joshua Gqozo led the nation of Ciskei to a courageous stand against Communist terrorism, intimidation, agitation, subversion and aggression. In the final years of the Cold War, Ciskei, along with Southern Africa, was targeted by Marxist revolutionaries and Brigadier Gqozo rose to the challenge to make a stand for faith and freedom.
His book provides fascinating insights to our history and help us understand the forces arrayed against Christian civilisation in Southern Africa. Brigadier Gqozo was at the heart of tumultuous events and sought to do his duty faithfully and fearlessly.
It was through our Biblical Worldview Summit that we came into contact with the family of Brigadier Gqozo. Then he invited me to lead a Frontline Fellowship mission team to conduct a Biblical Worldview Seminar for church and government leaders in Bisho, Ciskei. We thank God for a faithful servant who stood firm under extremely difficult circumstances and against great odds.
There is much to learn so that we can understand the times, resist Marxist revolution and strive together for the Faith, for our families and for the future. (Dr Peter Hammond, Director. Frontline Fellowship).
INTRODUCTION OF THE BOOK CONTENT
The South African History should be seen in different views. It would not be complete if it is biased to the ANC, as the only victims of apartheid, narrated by the ANC every year as celebrities, in most cases, trying to refine the history of their heroes, who, as the ANC thinks, has done no wrong, ignoring the other side of the coin in this country. All South African’s stories must be heard because apartheid has harmed all the people of this country.
As a soldier, I was trained and taught to be loyal to the government of the day, to be a politician was not in the Curriculum. I was trained to defend the citizens of the Republic of South Africa. Ciskei was part of the Republic of South Africa.
Many views of how South Africa was Liberated have been said eloquently, characterising, assassinating and labelling Brigadier Gqozo, a true leader of the Ciskei Defence Force, not elected, but mandated by the Ciskei Defence Force to map the future of Ciskei. This unfortunate bias, includes all the blacks and whites who do not toe the line with ANC’s Communist ideology; Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a true leader of Kwa Zulu Natal, Chief Mangope, a leader of Bophuthatswana, Chief Mopedi, a true leader of QwaQwa. The baseless thought that all leaders, according to the Communist ANC, are the stooges of Apartheid.
It is mindboggling. The question is, what evidence have the ruling regime for that character assassination? If I can counter their baseless views and ask them where did they get so much money to buy thousands of unlicensed AK 47 rifles and ammunition? Foreign murderous weapons, which killed thousands of South African all black and white people? Who funded them to put sanctions which destroyed our economy to such an extent that black people whom they claim to liberate, struggled to make ends meet. Some of the so-called “liberators” have a string of “Degrees” funded by who? Is it not true that they are stooges of the Soviet Unions, and some anti-Christ blocs who say there is no God, while we struggled and prayed that our Creator to deliver us from evil just as he liberated the Israelites. This is what this book is all about. It is ironic that those citizens of South Africa who suffered racism in this country are labelled “Stooges of apartheid”. It is so much reasonable to love the whites in our country than hate them. Is the Soviet Union who funded them not white? Is China, a foreign country, not white?
I find it important to set the record straight with this book. Videos, Newspapers, and Speeches, give evidence that true history must not be manufactured with misinformation, character assassination and propaganda. Our children deserve to be taught true history. That they should know where their parents came from. I call a spade a spade, not a spoon.
The media mercilessly destroyed all the opposite and alternative views, and their honest views were drowned on stigmas created by political correctness. For example, most people cannot say “No”, in fear that they will be labelled as “apartheid lackey”. Their Communist masters rewarded them with ridiculous high posts and ridiculous salaries for producing absolutely nothing. After the ANC criminally won this government, there is zero production for what they are payed for.
This book talks about the history of the author. It starts when he was born, when his mother passed away and talks about his life with his Grandfather who raised him in the Polokwane Province. He was hard worker, he digged out huge trees and he ploughed mielies, pumpkins, beans, potatoes and peanuts. The author was the youngest of five siblings. His sister was three years older than him.
The other three were adopted by his grandparents. When he got older, he learned everything that was done on a farm, looked after domestic animals, ploughed and harvested. They sold every extra produce to their neighbours. When he was five years old, he cried to go to school, that is why he went to school at an early age. He attended three schools up to Matric. The first School taught him a North Sotho Language, which was called Pedi in the North Transvaal at the time. The second School was a Primary School which taught him Tswana Language. His High School taught him South Sotho, in Kroonstad. After Matric, he started to work as a waiter then, in a Super Market Store, where he learned how to take stock and store it and make book work for the Company.
The next work was in a meal Company in Kroonstad until he was employed at the Prison Department. As a hard worker, he excelled and got promoted up to leadership as an Instructor at the Baviaanspoort Training College.Afterwards, he was selected by the Army officials who were looking for Instructors to train the soldiers at the Army Training College in 21BN, Lenasia. He was one of the elected who went to the South African Defence Force. In the Army, he was an Infantry foot soldier. He was trained to go to the border War in the territory of the North West of South Africa and South West of Angola. After returning from the border, he was transferred to the Separate Development Country which was called Ciskei Bantustan.
He excelled in all his duties until he was voted unanimously to be the President of that Home-land, Ciskei, after the Army overthrew President L.L. W Sebe. From that moment he became what he was never trained for, a politician, a diplomat, and an enforcer of the Law. Violence was so serious that his Country was on the edge of Civil War. There was the negotiation table, Codesa, the Bisho Massacre, the TRC and the Elections which led to Mr Nelson Mandela becoming the first black President of South Africa.
