25 YEARS of MISSIONS in the MALL

“Does not wisdom cry out and understanding lift up her voice? She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the way, where the paths meet. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors.” Proverbs 8:1-3

Would You Consider Yourself to Be a Good Person?
Monday, 10 August is a public holiday in South Africa, National Women’s Day. Every year, for the last 25 years, our mission has been organising outreaches in shopping malls. We set up display boards, or pull-up banners and literature tables and conduct Spiritual Wellbeing questionnaires/surveys, where we take individuals through Way of the Master, Ten Commandments-based questions, such as:
“Would you consider yourself to be a good person?”;
“How many of the Ten Commandments can you remember?”;
“Have you ever lied?”;
“Have you ever stolen anything?”;
“Have you borrowed something and failed to return it?”;
“Have you ever hated someone?”;
Jesus said, if you hate someone it is like committing murder in your heart.

Why Should God Allow You into Heaven?
We then lead into Evangelism Explosion questions, such as:
“If God was to ask you why He should let you into Heaven, what would you say?”;
“If God was to Judge you on the basis of His Ten Commandments, would you be innocent, or guilty?”;
“If you were to die today, where would you go?”
We offer those who complete this questionnaire the choice of a free New Testament, book or DVD.

Where Will You Spend Eternity?
We have been mobilising up to 100 volunteers in numerous shopping malls at a time with some tremendous testimonies of receptive people, eager to engage in discussions concerning eternity and how a Holy God can allow sinful people like us into His Heaven. On a normal outreach on such days, we can distribute thousands of leaflets and have many good conversations and the opportunity to pray with numerous receptive individuals.

Overcoming Lockdown Complications
With the Lockdown regulations/social distancing requirements this year, we are expecting fewer shopping malls to be open to us and fewer volunteers. However, we will still do our best. Two shopping malls have already given us the green light. We are waiting for others to respond and are also planning mass literature distributions at major intersections and in some parks. This year our primary focus at the shopping malls will be to expose human trafficking and slavery today.
